01What stays on your phone
Your expenses, income, budgets, goals, accounts and balances, your profile (name, city, currency and photo) your chat history and any receipt photos are kept in the app's private storage on your phone. Other apps can't read it, and we don't receive a copy.
The app does not connect to your bank. We never collect bank logins, card numbers, contacts, messages, call logs or your precise location. The microphone is used only if you tap it to dictate a question, and nothing is recorded or kept.
02What leaves your phone
Your question and recent messages, your first name and city if you set them, your currency and goals, and a summary of your income, spending, budgets and account balances. Smaller features, such as the weekly note or sorting imported bank rows, send only the few figures they need.
A thumbs up or down on an answer. If you tap Share, that one question and answer.
Device model, Android and app version, crash details, and simple counts such as "first expense added". Never an amount, a note, a name or anything you type.
Your device's advertising ID, your approximate country from your IP address, basic device details and information about the ads shown, used by Google to serve and measure ads.
A copy of your data, including receipt photos, saved to a Smart Spend Backups folder in your own Drive, not to us. The app can see only the files it created.
Your device and app details, recent technical events and your description. You see the whole report before sending it.
Requests to Ace carry no account or device identifier.
03How we use it
- To answer your Ace questions and write your monthly report.
- To find and fix crashes, and to see which features are used.
- To show ads that keep the app free.
- To reply when you contact us.
We don't sell your data, build advertising profiles from it, or use it to train AI models.
05How long it is kept
- On your phoneUntil you delete it
- Server logs, IPsUp to 14 days
- Shared answers90 days
- Crash reports90 days
- Usage counts2 months
Server logs are kept for security. Ratings are kept only as daily totals. Uninstalling the app also removes what is on your phone.
06Ads and your consent
In the UK, the EU and California, the app asks for your consent about ads the first time you open it. If you decline personalised ads, you still see ads, but they aren't based on your advertising ID. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
Ads are rated for a general audience and never placed where you add or edit your money. See how Google uses data from apps.
07Your choices and rights
- Turn off crash reports and usage counts with the switch above, in Me → Data.
- Delete everything on your phone: Me → Your data → Delete all data. Uninstalling also removes it. A Drive backup stays until you delete it from Drive.
- Ask us for a copy of what we hold, or to delete it, including an answer you shared (send its reference code).
Depending on where you live, for example under GDPR or the CCPA, you may have further rights such as access, correction, deletion and objection. Email us and we will help.
08Security
Data on your phone is kept in private app storage. Everything sent to our server and to AI providers travels encrypted over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, so we send as little as possible in the first place.
09Children
Smilo is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you think a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete what we hold.
10Where data is processed
Our server, the AI providers and Google may process data outside your country, usually in the United States or Europe.
11Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change affects existing users, the app tells you the next time you open it.
Version 2.2 (18 October 2026): the AI coach is called Ace; receipt photos are listed with your data and backups.
Version 2.1 (15 October 2026): rewritten to be shorter and plainer, and adds crash reports and usage counts through Google Firebase, with a switch to turn them off.
